2011 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE
My name is Jona Uluinaceua, I am from Fiji and have been an International student at Kelston Boys High School since February 2010, I was fortunate this year to be offered an academic scholarship and also I was given the responsibility of being the International Student Rep.
I am enjoying my time at Kelston Boys, it has given me good rugby skills, I am now playing senior club rugby also I am gaining all the credits I need for next year to apply to Air New Zealand Engineering and start my training.
Kelston Boys has given me heaps of opportunities above what I had been thinking about for my future and has taken me far beyond my comfort zone.
The affable staff makes it feel like home and the brotherhood is what makes me a proud Kelstonian.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS EDUCATION OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Recently the International students at Kelston experienced rural New Zealand when they went horse riding at Warkworth. For some of the students and the teachers this was the first time on a horse.
This was followed by lunch and a swim at the Waiwera Hot Pools.
It was pleasing to see the excellent behaviour of all the boys which was commented on by Roger of Horse Riding Warkworth and the pool staff at Waiwera.
All in all an enjoyable day out for everyone. The studens are now asking when and where the next excursion will be.

MY TRIP - Mathieu Cazenave - France
I arrived in New Zealand in January. I did not go out of Auckland for 3 months except when I went to Great Barrier Island for the Kelston Boys Leadership Camp before the beginning of the school year.
In the first term holidays I joined a tour group 'Kiwi Experience' and visited the South Island. I flew to Christchurch and joined a group of people from all over the world and was given a ticket called 'The legendary hop on, hop off' this enabled me to spend whatever time I chose in different places, I stayed in Kaikoura, Nelson visiting the Abel Tasman National Park, Westport and Lake Mahinapua, Franz Joseph, Wanaka and Queenstown which was my favourite place, it is a beautiful town near a lake and mountains and is very famous for bungy jumping.
I advise young people who are visitors to New Zealand like me to try to go to the South Island because I do not know if there are a lot of places like this in the world.

VISITING OVERSEAS SCHOOLS 2011
2011 is shaping up to be another busy year with many overseas schools scheduled to attend Kelston Boys throughout the year.

Paul Park
My name is Paul Park and I am in Year 12 this year, I am from Korea and have been at KBHS for two and half years, I came to Kelston Boys to further my soccer skills and for education.
I am a striker and have played in the 1st XI Soccer squad since I started at KBHS in Year 10, for the third season that I have been in the team we have earned top positions each year. In 2010 we played 1st division where we were place 2nd and this year I am proud that we have been placed in the premier division and again we are proving we are a strong team and are one of the top soccer teams in the Auckland Secondary Competition.
I anticipate one more year at Kelston again playing in the Soccer 1st XI, and gaining more NCEA credits, and then I plan to further my education in New Zealand and play top club soccer.
During term 3 our 1st XI team are going to Australia to compete, I am looking forward to the experience and playing soccer in another country.

DAY TRIPS AROUND AUCKLAND
Earlier in the year a group of our new international students attended an International Student Welcome hosted by Study Auckland which was held at the Auckland Town Hall.
Students were welcomed by the Mayor of Auckland, shown sights and activities availahle to them and were entertained by cultural and modern dance groups.
Two of our students won spot prizes and all left the venue with a goodie bag full of New Zealand treats.
It was a great day ending with lunch sat Mission Bay and a sightseeing drive across the Auckland Harbour Bridge before returning to school.
Towards the end of March a group of 32 ESOL students, took a ferry ride across Auckland harbour to Devonport and visited North Head exploring the tunnels and gun placements and then visited the Naval Museum where they were shown many interesting exhibits and then tried on naval uniforms.
